A short story about two teenagers living in a small town at the Polish seaside. It’s summer, a time for first loves, a time to grow up. Director of Photography Szymon Kluz won the inaugural Canon Best Cinematography Award at the 2007 Raindance Film Festival.

EMILY CRIES (EMILKA PLACZE)

Dir. Rafal Kapelinski, Poland, 2006, 33 min.

This film, telling the story of a lost eighteen-year-old boy, is set in Katowice during martial law. The boy falls in love with the lovely Emily, but the feeling is not mutual. He desperately asks Emily to join him in a dance class. One of the most acclaimed Polish shorts in recent years.

REFUGE CITY (MIASTO UCIECZKI)

Dir. Wojciech Kasperski, Poland 2006, 17 min.

Lodz, city of factories and hooligans. Tomek - a devoted fan of his football team - gives the world his ultimatum: either his team stays in the first league or he will mete out the justice himself: he will kill someone. The film is a sensational story about true fans and ordinary hooligans. It is a story about friendship and violence.

On a cold winter morning, two young brothers set off on a hunt, but only one returned. This is the tale about accidental death, fate and remorse. It was awarded at the 23rd International Short Film Festival in Lille.
